Clean Water changes lives

[Steve]

Water crisis.

Water problems seem overwhelming.

.. doing fantastic works

[Chip & Chelsea]

The solution
As this water crisis
gains attention from around the world (global crisis), people are taking action. Many organizations are committed (have promised) to bringing clean water to places in need.
Water.org
Actor Matt Damon has been raising
/reɪz/ awareness (informing people) about the world water crisis for years. In 2009 he co-founded Water.org as a way to bring clean water to people. By forming partnerships with local organizations, Water.org teaches people how to solve their own water problems. The results have been amazing. Communities in Africa, South Asia and Central America have seen their lives change through Water.org projects.
The Water Project
Another organization working toward
transforming lives with clean water is The Water Project. This organization has already helped bring clean water to 60,000 people in India and Africa. They do this by funding and digging wells. As a result of having clean water, people become health again. Men return to work, women start small businesses, and children return to school.
Clean water changes lives {indeed}

為世界尋找水資源
乾淨的水能使人們的生命為之改觀

解決方案

隨著用水危機逐漸受到世界各地的注意,許多人也開始採取行動了。許多組織都致力為有需要的地方供應乾淨用水。

Water.org

[Ashley & Ken]

K: Hey, Ashley, what’s wrong with the Internet? It’s really slow today.
A: Sorry, we had a small crisis this morning. All of the computer systems crashed in the library and the network was down all morning.
K: Oh, that’s terrible.
A: But
they’re working on fixing it so it may be a little slow for the time being(暫時_.
K: Hey, speaking of
crisises… Hmm, a crisis…Wait a sec, Ashley, what’s the plural of crisis?
A: That’s a good question. Crisis ends with an s, so you can’t just add an s. You have to change the ending from is to es, crises.
K: Crises? Not
crisises but crises [ˈkraɪsiz]?
A: Right.
Crises is a regular plural, so the ending changes. There are other words that follow the same pattern like hypothesis which ends in is. A hypothesis is an educated guess. More than one hypothesis would be hypotheses.
K: So, when I see an noun that
ends in is and if I want to make it plural I should change the ending to es and it should be pronounce si:s?
A: That’s right. Now there are a few other examples of irregular plurals. For instance, words that end in
us.
K:
What happens to words that end in us?
A: Let’s look at the word
alumnus. An alumnus is someone who was the student at a particular school. I am an alumnus of Stanford University. My classmates are alumni.
K: Oh, alumnus becomes alumni. That’s another good rule to remember.
Are there more?
A: Yes, there are many irregular plurals, but I’ll share another common one with you. Words that end with on, we change to a. Criteria is actually plural for criterion.
K: Now,
criteria means requirements, right?
A: Yes, so if there is more than one criterion you have criteria.
K: Okay. Well, I need to
look up a few more of these rules. I’m sure there are some exceptions.
A: Yes, as always there are a few exceptions. But let me send you a link to a list of irregular plurals.
K: When the Internet is fixed.
A: Yes.

若是字尾是usalumnus(校友),它的複數變成了alumni  /əˈlʌmnaɪ/,將us改為i。另外還有criterion(標準),這是個單數名詞,它的複數是criteria,將字尾的on改為a。這些都是不規則的複數變化。
